Where Iron Sharpens Iron / Proverbs 27:17
Jesus said to his disciples: “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.”
In this world, bearing the truth about things can range from the simple and easy (e.g. 1 + 1 = 2) to the very complex and difficult (e.g. pancreatic cancer). Jesus is clear that in this world, without the Power of the Holy Spirit, we cannot bear the Truth of all of Heaven. Like Jack Nicholson screamed at Tom Cruise in the movie, “A Few Good Men”, “You [we] can’t handle the truth”. While this is often the case in this world, it’s always the case regarding the World to come (whilst we’re still living here). Heaven and all of its Mysteries, Glories, etc. are just too much for our earthly minds to handle. But, through the Power of the Holy Spirit, we can handle “more” in this life than we could before God breathed His Holy Spirit into our Born-Again lungs and bodies. So, let’s always remember how Good God is and that the darkened glass lenses that we see Heaven through now will eventually become crystal-clear later. We don’t need to know it all now – even if we could handle it. We simply need to Listen, Trust, and Obey and let God do whatever it is that He wants to do in and through our lives.
