Where Iron Sharpens Iron / Proverbs 27:17
John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. He is the one of whom I said, ‘A man is coming after me who ranks ahead of me because he existed before me.’ I did not know him, but the reason why I came baptizing with water was that he might be made known to Israel.” John testified further, saying, “I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from heaven and remain upon him. I did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘On whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain, he is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God.”
There are many things in this world and universe that just can’t be explained in human terms. For example, when a Man and Woman come together as Husband and Wife, how does the baby that is formed in the Mother at the moment of conception already have a Soul? There are great examples of near death experiences (NDE’s) throughout history and currently occurring today where people meet Jesus and other Saints in Heaven and see things outside of their body (in Heaven and on earth). These NDE’s just can’t be explained without Faith. Pastor John Burke’s book, “Imagine Heaven”, is a fascinating read on many of the NDE’s that have occurred in Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Atheists, etc. The bottom line is that in our earthly minds, we just can’t know everything there is to know in God – it’s just too much for our earthly minds to handle. This is where Faith comes in. John the Baptist went into the Jordan to Baptize in order to “prepare the Way of the Lord”. He didn’t know “Who” the Messiah was, but He did know that God would make Jesus known to Him via His Holy Spirit at the appropriate time and place. We, too, are Called to do all kinds of things in this life for Jesus – many of which, like John the Baptist’s Ministry, are very uncomfortable and counter-intuitive to the world’s ways. But, we are not called to follow the worlds’ ways. We are Called to Trust in the Lord and do His Will knowing that He has a plan and will guide us through His Holy Spirit. So, let’s do our best to Listen to that “still small Voice” within our Souls while Obeying what It’s telling us. For it’s only in Trusting God and His Ways and plans for us that we can be the Saints that He made us to be.
