The Immortal

Luke 20:27, 34-38:

Some Sadducees, those who deny that there is a resurrection, came forward. Jesus said to them, “The children of this age marry and remarry; but those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age and to the resurrection of the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. They can no longer die, for they are like angels; and they are the children of God because they are the ones who will rise. That the dead will rise even Moses made known in the passage about the bush, when he called out ‘Lord, ‘the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob; and he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.”

Immortality has been the focus of many throughout the course of history. People have constantly searched for ways to “live forever”, but all of their secular efforts have naturally-failed. There is one very real truth in this life – that is that everyone on earth will one day die an earthly death – meaning, all of our bodies will stop working at one point and we will be declared “dead”. As frustrating and frightening as this is for many, Jesus reveals to everyone the only way to “live forever” – to one day be immortal. When a Believer is “deemed worthy to attain to the coming age” by Jesus, he or she will be Immortal and reign throughout all of Eternity with Jesus in Heaven. So, the real question is how can be “deemed worthy”? Jesus Calls all of us to pick up our Crosses and to Follow Him (Luke 9:23)…but, how do we do that? Again, it’s a simple answer – we are to love God with all of our selves and to love each other the way that we love God (Mark 12-28-31). Nobody ever said “simple” meant “easy” – in fact, Jesus Promised us the tribulations of this world in trying to walk in His Immortal and Holy Footsteps. But He does Promise that if we do this with all of our strength, might, and heart, He will declare us “living” at the end of our earthly journey. So, let’s look to Jesus’ Examples and Ways as we continue our adventures here in this life – for Redemption is just around the corner.
