Nobody Said This Was Going to Be Easy

Luke 12:49-53:

Jesus said to his disciples: “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished! Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three; a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”

Are you feeling a little “divided” lately?  Like people around you aren’t seeking the Truth in God’s Word and are following what the world is telling them?  Do you find yourself at odds with people over pandemics, abortion, gun control, politics, religion, wars, and a whole host of other things?  If that sounds like you, then you are exactly where God said that we would be.  Jesus came to set the earth on fire for Him and He was the Eternal Instigator in a world gone mad when He came on the scene.  Rome had taken over the nation of Israel putting pagan gods in many Jewish Temples, enslaving (to a degree) God’s Chosen People, and desecrating both God’s Temples and People in the process.  Things were down-right “ugly” when Jesus entered His-story.  Jesus came to set things straight according to His Father’s Word.  He told us that if we ever find ourselves wondering about a worldly topic, the first place to go to is His Father’s Word – the Scriptures.  Far too often, that is not the first place we go to in order to find out what God has to say and teach about a topic or issue.  God is crystal-clear on every single issue that we face in today’s world – but, only to those who “seek” His Word, Truth, Knowledge, and Wisdom.  Division in this world is normal according to Jesus, but reconciliation is what the Father ultimately wants with each and every one of us.  So, let’s always be sure to run to Him and His Word first.  It is through His Wisdom and Knowledge that we and He can “love” on others – even when we and others are straying from Him.
