Where Iron Sharpens Iron / Proverbs 27:17
Beloved: See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God. And so we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we shall be has not yet been revealed. We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence in God and receive from him whatever we ask, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. And his commandment is this: we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another just as he commanded us. Those who keep his commandments remain in him, and he in them, and the way we know that he remains in us is from the Spirit he gave us.
Have you ever been in a situation where someone just didn’t understand your Faith? Perhaps, you’ve even been made fun of because of your Faith – called a “goody-two-shoes”, a “bore”, or a “stiff”? Perhaps, you’ve lost Friends, Family, a job, or something else, because of your Faith. God reminds us in the Gospel that this never has anything to do with us – He tells us that the reason that they don’t “get” us is because they don’t “get” Him. People who aren’t kind to us aren’t doing it because of us – they’re doing it because they don’t know God (and, ultimately, who they are in God). The best way for them to find God is through our examples regardless of how they treat us. Jesus provides the Ultimate Example by allowing Himself to be crucified for all of humanity. He didn’t resist His Passion – He embraced it and continued His Example right to the very end. So, let us do our best to walk in the path of Jesus Christ and go to our Crosses with Him. It’s in our examples (in addition to Christ’s) that many might come to know Him.
