Follow Him

Mark 1:14-20:

After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God: “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” As he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they were fishermen. Jesus said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Then they abandoned their nets and followed him. He walked along a little farther and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They too were in a boat mending their nets. Then he called them. So they left their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed him.

There’s a wonderful Church hymn that goes, “Would you come and follow me if I but called your name?”  For those who have heard or sung it, you might know that it’s a wonderful song coming from Jesus to each and every one of us.  While Jesus walked through the cities and towns of His day Calling many to follow Him, repent of their sinful ways, and to love God and others with all of their minds, hearts, and Souls, He didn’t stop walking the earth after He ascended to Heaven.  In fact, He still walks our cities, towns, villages, provinces, states, countries, homes, jobs, schools, etc. today.  Each and every day.  He is walking this world right next to each and every one of us.  Even when we don’t realize (or forget) that He’s right there…always…  So, like the Apostles who would become Fishers of Men, let us, too, heed His call and leave our nets and follow the King of kings.  For it is still the time of fulfillment and we are all walking with Jesus in the Living Word along the last pages of the Bible.  And, this Walk will lead us all Home with Him.
