Jesus: The Ultimate Action Hero
Matthew 14:13-21:
When Jesus heard of the death of John the Baptist, he withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself. The crowds heard of this and followed him on foot from their towns. When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, and he cured their sick. When it was evening, the disciples approached him and said, “This is a deserted place and it is already late; dismiss the crowds so that they can go to the villages and buy food for themselves.” Jesus said to them, “There is no need for them to go away; give them some food yourselves.” But they said to him, “Five loaves and two fish are all we have here.” Then he said, “Bring them here to me,” and he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds. They all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up the fragments left over— twelve wicker baskets full. Those who ate were about five thousand men, not counting women and children.

In the Gospels, Jesus is always “acting”; He’s always “moving”; He’s always “involved”. Let’s go back over this Gospel “highlighting” Jesus’ actions – “withdrew”, “disembarked”, “saw”, “moved”, “cured”, “said”, “give”, “bring”, “ordered”, “taking”, “looking up”, “said”, “broke”, “gave”, “ate”, “picked up”, etc. All of Scripture is like this. And, it’s no different today; right here, right now. Jesus is not some distant God; He is intimately-involved in every situation that we find ourselves in. He mourns with us when we mourn. He runs when we run. He fights when we fight. He sweats when we sweat. There isn’t anything that we go through in this world that can compare to what Jesus did and does for us each and every day. He is the Ultimate Action Hero, for sure, but He’s also our biggest Fan. Nobody in this world is rooting for you and I more than Jesus and He is not a “fair-weather-fan”; He is there in the mud with you and I when we are down-and-out…when we’re losing and when we were are lost. Pastor Steven Furtick once shared that, “Jesus whispers, because He is close.” That’s comforting, but, more importantly, it’s True. So, when we’re feeling down and feeling like we’re all alone, let’s be sure to remember that Jesus is right there with us. And, then, let’s follow His Example and “ACT” in a Spirit of Love, Faith, Grace, and Mercy. Nobody had the impact on His-story like Jesus and His Story is the best Path to getting Home!
