Where Iron Sharpens Iron / Proverbs 27:17
Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be. Where I am going you know the way.” Thomas said to him, “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” Philip said to him, “Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else, believe because of the works themselves. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father.”
If I asked most folks, “Do Miracles help you to Believe in God?”, most folks would reply with an emphatic “yes”. Miracles showcase God first-hand and they are hard to deny. Take One of the biggest recent Miracles that we’ve all been Blessed to have witnessed as an example; the “Miracle on the Hudson” where Captain Sully Sullenberger crash-landed U.S. Airways Flight 1549 into the Hudson River in New York City without losing a single passenger or crew member. The landing of Flight 1549 into the Hudson was unprecedented and, oftentimes, misunderstood. From the bizarre timing of the bird strike to the decision by Captain Sully to land in the river to the true-geography of the river to a great Co-Pilot and Crew to stellar crisis communications to NYC’s response, the event will forever live in the hearts, minds, and Souls of those closest to it. As an Engineer myself, the “Miracle on the Hudson” is a Miracle that was provided to us all by some very Faithful people doing what they could control in an Absolute moment of Serenity (they could only control their actions and then rely on the Lord for the rest). I’ve studied mechanics, calculus, fluid dynamics, and a whole variety of sciences and nothing beyond Faith and God can explain this Miracle. But, do we need a greater sign than that to Believe? Are we that stubborn to Believe? How about child birth? How about the universe? How about the warmth in your heart and Soul when you’ve done something “Good” for someone else? Miracles are all around us and certainly within us, as well. We must “See” as God “Sees”. We must “Listen” as God “Listens”. We must turn our focus on Him in an Eternal Spirit of Gratitude for the very breath in our lungs and all else that He’s done. Jesus came and died for you and me. When we surrender to Him, our eyes are opened to all of God’s Miracles. May we all see all of His Miracles all of the time.
