Where Iron Sharpens Iron / Proverbs 27:17
This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found with child through the Holy Spirit. Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man, yet unwilling to expose her to shame, decided to divorce her quietly. Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the Holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her. She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.” When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home.
God speaks to us in all kinds of ways; including in dreams. I have been fortunate to “hear” from God four times in my dreams across almost 50 years here on this rock. Like Joseph, there were times when I wasn’t sure what to do beyond what God had trained me to do. Joseph, the ever-Faithful husband that he is, decided to do the “Right” thing and divorce Mary quietly rather than risk her life for her Immaculate Conception. But, God sent His Messenger in a dream to Joseph and the course of His-story changed Eternally. In Job 33:13-18, we find the answer(s) as to “why” God sometimes chooses to speak with us in dreams, as follows: “Why do you complain to Him that He answers nothing a man asks? For God speaks in one way and in another, yet no one notices. In a dream, in a vision in the night, when deep sleep falls upon men as they slumber on their beds, He opens their ears and terrifies them with warnings to turn a man from wrongdoing and keep him from pride, to preserve his soul from the Pit and his life from perishing by the sword.” You see, when we’re sleeping, God has a captive-audience and He uses this forum like the Master Craftsman that He is. If you ever hear from God in a dream, you’ll know what I mean when I say, “Obey the dream”. Is there really any other choice? After seeing and/or hearing from God, it’s much easier to heed His Commands and Heavenly-Guidance. Emmanuel, Emmanuel, God is with us!!!
