The Just Judge
Luke 18:1-8:
Jesus told his disciples a parable about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary. He said, “There was a judge in a certain town who neither feared God nor respected any human being. And a widow in that town used to come to him and say, ‘Render a just decision for me against my adversary.’ For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought, ‘While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being, because this widow keeps bothering me I shall deliver a just decision for her lest she finally come and strike me.'” The Lord said, “Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says. Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? Will he be slow to answer them? I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

The Parable of the Dishonest Judge reflects Eternally upon the “The Just Judge” (God). Jesus will do His part – that’s guaranteed; but, the question then becomes “will we do our part?” If even a “dishonest” judge can do his part, then what is the excuse for not doing ours’? In the first line of this Parable, Jesus tells His Disciples, “about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary.” Linking Praying unceasingly with a “dishonest” judge might not make sense at first, but, if you really think and Pray about this Parable, it makes Perfect sense. Let’s “wash-down” this tough lesson with another in Luke 6:32 (NIV), “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.” But, God isn’t calling us to “just do our parts”; no, He’s calling us to Something so much more than we could even imagine – to change and be Changed by the Gospel. It’s in doing “our Parts” (e.g. fervently Praying, recklessly Loving, ruthlessly Trusting, etc.) that we are laying a Foundation for Jesus to build-upon. Like farmers, we are getting our Fields ready for the Eternal Rain from Heaven brought down upon us by the Holy Spirit. So, let’s move in the Lord’s Footsteps – Jesus left us His to set the tone as the “Ultimate Servant” – or, as some might say, the “Ultimate Player-Coach”!
