Where Iron Sharpens Iron / Proverbs 27:17
Jesus said to the Pharisees: “There was a rich man who dressed in purple garments and fine linen and dined sumptuously each day. And lying at his door was a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who would gladly have eaten his fill of the scraps that fell from the rich man’s table. Dogs even used to come and lick his sores. When the poor man died, he was carried away by angels to the bosom of Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried, and from the netherworld, where he was in torment, he raised his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he cried out, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me. Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am suffering torment in these flames.’ Abraham replied, ‘My child, remember that you received what was good during your lifetime while Lazarus likewise received what was bad; but now he is comforted here, whereas you are tormented. Moreover, between us and you a great chasm is established to prevent anyone from crossing who might wish to go from our side to yours or from your side to ours.’ He said, ‘Then I beg you, father, send him to my father’s house, for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they too come to this place of torment.’ But Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.’ He said, ‘Oh no, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ Then Abraham said, ‘If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.'”
Many people don’t believe in Hell and most folks, even if they do believe in Hell, don’t ever want to talk about it. Not talking about Hell is the equivalent of not talking about the horrors of what the Nazis did in World War II. We absolutely cannot turn our back on Hell and expect it to go away. We are at war and the sooner folks are honest with themselves and the dark menace that we are up against, the sooner we can focus on the salvation of Souls. Remember, after satan lost the battle with the Archangel Michael in Heaven, he was cast out of Heaven and down to the earth. It’s important to note the emphasized words here in Revelation 12:12, “But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.” So, the devil, a “5-star general” version of a demon (and at least a former 4th Degree Angel), was cast to earth in a fury and he knows that his time is short to inflict “maximum” damage. 1 Peter 5:8 (NIV) gives us a very chilling warning to, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” Right now, like the Allied Forces in Normandy after they landed on D-Day, we’re in occupied territory and the devil, like the Nazis, is making war with us (the Offspring of Jesus, Mary, & God). Our enemy is cunning, relentless, wise, and has been honing his tactics against the human race for thousands of years. We’re in occupied territory right now with an enemy who never sleeps, rests, or stops. If you have never looked at the events in Fatima, Portugal where, like Lazarus and the Rich Man, three very young Children were given a glimpse of Hell and what the Rich Man was subjected to in the Gospel, you need to see the Truth. In the movie, “The Usual Suspects”, it gets said that the greatest trick the devil ever pulled of was making the world think that he wasn’t real. Both the devil and Hell are real folks, so let’s get our lives in order as quickly and as best as we can and move on together in unity on the battleground of life. Courage and kindness cost us nothing, but not doing anything and ignoring the Truth could cost us everything.
