Keep Moving Forward

Luke 9:51-62

When the days for Jesus’ being taken up were fulfilled, he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem, and he sent messengers ahead of him. On the way they entered a Samaritan village to prepare for his reception there, but they would not welcome him because the destination of his journey was Jerusalem. When the disciples James and John saw this they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?” Jesus turned and rebuked them, and they journeyed to another village. As they were proceeding on their journey someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus answered him, “Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.” And to another he said, “Follow me.” But he replied, “Lord, let me go first and bury my father.” But he answered him, “Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” And another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say farewell to my family at home.” To him Jesus said, “No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God.”

Jesus calls us to look to our Future while learning from our past.  He calls us to a continual growing in Him and in our Faith.  During His earthly Ministry, Jesus was resolute in where He was going and how He was going to get there.  He shared it quite literally on several occasions in Scripture – sometimes directly and other times indirectly.  But, He never waivered from His Perfect Mission – the redemption of our Souls!  How easy it is for us to get distracted in this world in our earthly flesh – to lose sight of the Greater Plan that God has set in motion for each of us before we were even conceived in our Mother’s wombs…  But, take heart, for Jesus has overcome the world.  And, when we get distracted from God, we can simply cry-out to Jesus and the King of Kings will help us to get Re-Focused on Him.  I heard a Pastor say that you never see a moving van behind a hearse.  And, he’s right – even the hearse is moving forward and not looking back!?  We must keep our eyes focused on the Leader and Perfecter of our Faith, Jesus Christ.  By focusing our gaze (and life) on Him, the rest of the things in our scope of vision should become a peripheral blurriness that take their proper place in our mind – behind Him.  So, let’s be sure to get behind Christ in every way that we can and follow His Leadership to the Greatest Home that we could never fully-comprehend in this world!
