Where Iron Sharpens Iron / Proverbs 27:17
Jesus said to his disciples: “There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on earth nations will be in dismay, perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves. People will die of fright in anticipation of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But when these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand. “Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life, and that day catch you by surprise like a trap. For that day will assault everyone who lives on the face of the earth. Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Several years ago, our Family stayed after Church Services for coffee and donuts while on vacation in Blue Ridge, Georgia. We had a great time visiting with the local Church Members, but what would change our lives forever was the DVD that the Church had showing on a screen in back of the reception hall. As we wandered over, we realized it was titled “The Star of Bethlehem”. The DVD chronicled one man’s search, Anthony Jacobs, for the truth about what the stars showed the world around the times of Jesus’ birth and death. Anyone who’s been to a planetarium growing-up knows all about how the night sky (and stars, planets, sun, etc.) is incredibly cyclical with many things. On a related note, Lee Strobel has also authored several books on the signs and related Truths in his book series, “The Case For…” (Christ, Creator, Faith) Lee is a former investigative journalist for the Chicago Tribune who, after seeing his Wife’s life transform after she accepted Christ, was compelled to do his own research to disprove God’s existence. He found that the Truth set him free to a very deep relationship with Jesus that has impacted millions of people around the world through his books. For some that are highly-educated, the simplicity of believing in God and that He must have created everything, including the big bang, can at times seem too simple of an Answer. But, the signs are there for all who objectively look for it. Everything in the Bible is true; it’s the Inspired Word of God. There isn’t any downside to Believing it all. It is a love story written and meant for us. “Seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7) So, as we enter this year’s Advent Season on December 2nd, 2018, let’s actively-seek God together. God isn’t “silent” to those who truly want to hear His Voice. He intimately wants to be close to us. I like what Pastor Mark Furtick shared on this point; that “God whispers, because He is close.” The same God that was Raised from the dead lives within all of us and that Power is available to each one of us to harness at any time. We only need to be Faithful.
