Where Iron Sharpens Iron / Proverbs 27:17
One of the scribes came to Jesus and asked him, “Which is the first of all the commandments?” Jesus replied, “The first is this: Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.” The scribe said to him, “Well said, teacher. You are right in saying, ‘He is One and there is no other than he.’ And ‘to love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself’ is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.” And when Jesus saw that he answered with understanding, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And no one dared to ask him any more questions.
Sometimes we see the Kingdom of Heaven as being some far-off distant place. It seems too far away – as far as the ground is from the skies. But, that couldn’t be further from the Truth. The Kingdom is very near – Heaven lives each day in each one of us. Our Souls were formed in Heaven and then delivered here on earth inside of human flesh. While we enter this world as cute, little babies, it’s the Heaven inside each bundle of joy that lights-up a room. That Inner-Light is worth more than anything that this world can offer in return. Life is priceless. It should never be taken for granted. It should always be treated with respect and love – even when it’s hard to respect and love the stewards of Heaven around us. It’s hard to be good stewards in our world, but, it’s not complex. Love is simple and kindness is free. So, as one of my best Friends is always telling folks, let’s “do life together”. The only thing that we truly need is Love.
