The Fools and the Wise
Matthew 25:1-13
Jesus told his disciples this parable: “The kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones, when taking their lamps, brought no oil with them, but the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps. Since the bridegroom was long delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. At midnight, there was a cry, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise ones replied, ‘No, for there may not be enough for us and you. Go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.’ While they went off to buy it, the bridegroom came and those who were ready went into the wedding feast with him. Then the door was locked. Afterwards the other virgins came and said, ‘Lord, Lord, open the door for us!’ But he said in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, I do not know you.’ Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”

Much has been written about both the Fools and the Wise – especially in the Book of Proverbs. “The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.” 3:35 “A wise son makes a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.” 10:1 “The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.” 10:8 “Wise men lay-up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.” 10:14 “The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth. The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.” 10:20-21 “It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.” 10:23 “He that troubles his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.” 11:29 “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkens unto counsel is wise.” 12:15 “He that walks with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” 13:20 “In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.” 14:3 I could go on and on. If you’re looking for more Wisdom from God on this subject, please open your Bibles and read the Book of Proverbs. King Solomon was considered the principle author of this Book. And, while he is known as the wisest man to ever live through the Gift of wisdom that he received directly from God, he would fall like we all do through his flesh and his many wives – eventually worshipping other Gods. So, if the wisest man who ever lived could “fall”, how can we avoid falling ourselves? The Truth is that we all will fall at times. It’s not the falling that’s important as all of our Bible Heroes “fell” at some point. It’s what you do after you fall that matters the most. An Angel once told me that, “Life’s an open-Book; some of us just choose not to use the Book.” A little Bible each day keeps the devil away. While the devil will never stop trying to stop us from getting Home, he is in the world and we can take heart, because, Jesus has overcome the world. “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!” John 16:33
